Merlin Randonneur Bag

The Merlin Randonneur Bag takes the classic French handlebar bag design and pairs it with modern textiles to bring you the lightest traditional randonneur bags on the market. The Merlin Randonneur Bag is installed at the front of the bicycle on a small front rack and attaches to the bike using a decaleur. A favorite of long-distance cyclists, randonneur bags make for more efficient riding by keeping gear accessible while on the move. The Merlin Randonneur bag is held in place with four velcro straps (on the bottom), an webbing loop that secures to the randonneur rack’s tombstone, and a decaleur. Selecting the right size Randonneur Bag

Understanding the Critical Components

The Merlin Randonneur bag sits in front on a randonneur rack and is stabilized by three critical attachment points. First, integrated velcro straps hold the bottom of the bag securely to the platform of the rack. Second, an essential webbing loop holds the randonneur front rack’s tombstone. The third is a critical piece of attachment hardware called a decaleur (sold separately) that is typically installed into the bicycle headset and the randonneur bag itself. These three points work together to ensure that the Merlin is stable and secure on the rack. Skipping any of these attachment points is a safety concern for any rider, and you do so at your own risk.

The Merlin Randonneur Bag ships flat and requires minor assembly out-of-the-box. The rando bag comes with four Coroplast® sidewall inserts. Feed the rounded edges in first when you’re installing the inserts.  

Hardware installation of the decaleur to the Merlin Randonneur Bag is an involved project and requires making holes in your bag. Watch this installation video for tips and tricks, and note that we do not accept returns with holes or signs of wear.
